Jazz is back off its holidays in Birmingham with some great gigs coming up. Below is just a selection – check out the Gig Guide for more.
Kicks off on September 6th with the Frank Harrison/Brigitte Beraha duo and Orjan Hulten’s band Orion are back on the 27th with Partisans on the 21st. The spectacular Alina Bzhezhinska is also back on 6th October with her Hip Harp Collective featuring the music of Dorothy Ashby.
Local heroes feature – Olivia Murphy on the 10th, Forj on the 17th and Chris Young himself on the 24th September. David Austin Grey’s new project is on October 1st.
Punkt art Plastik featuring Petter Eldh on bass are at the mac on October the 1st and Tim Berne is in a joint promotion with the Conservatoire on October 31st.
Theon Cross comes to the Hare and Hounds on September 20th and NYC guitarist Mary Halvorsen is at CBSO Centre on October 5th. 30th October sees the fantastic new Days on Earth band from Mark Lockheart on the Symphony Hall stage in reverse configuration.
RBC Eastside Jazz Club
Michael Janisch’s new band features on September 26th and Paul Booth also has a new band on October 24th – Tim Berne as above is on October 31st.
Pizza Express Live
Wendy Kirkland features her new CD on September 20th and Remi Harris brings his mix of gypsy jazz and more on October 25th.
Jazz at NAC
Orjan Hulten’s Orion features on September 22nd and Chris Biscoe/Allison Neale Quintet on October 11th.
Check Artefact in Stirchley – they have Chris Mapp’s Stillefelt on a residency 23rd – 26th October.
